As per the Municipal Act 1994 the Municipal Council Chamba is required to perform the functions and implementation of the schemes which may be entrusted to them including the following, namely


1.  Urban planning including town planning;
2. Regulation of land-use and construction of buildings;
3. Planning for economic and social development;
4. Roads and bridges
5. Water supply for domestic, industrial and commercial purposes;
6. Public health, sanitation conservancy and solid waste management;
7. Fire services;
8. Urban forestry, protection of the environment and promotion of ecological aspects;
9. Safeguarding the interests of weaker sections of society, including the handicapped and mentally retarded;
10. Slum improvement and up gradation;
11. Urban poverty alleviation;
12. Provisions of urban amenities and facilities such as parks, gardens and playgrounds;
13. Promotion of cultural, educational and' aesthetics aspects;
14. Burials and burial grounds, cremations, cremation grounds and 15. electric crematoriums 16. Cattle ponds and prevention of cruelty to animals;
17. Vital statistics including registration of births and death;
18. Public amenities including street lighting, parking lots, bus stops and public conveniences;
19. Regulation of slaughter houses and tanneries

About MC Chamba

Chamba Municipal Council, a local Self Government institution was established during the British Raj in the year 1885 as ‘Nagar Palika’, or Municipal Committee, which included Kathlag, Moti-Tibba, Chamba Khas and Bakrota revenue up-Mohals. It was re-designated as ‘Nagar Parishad’ or Municipal Council, Chamba in 1994.
